For me, this time of year is full of “Hurry up! And wait.” experiences.

• I really want winter to be done – but then comes that time of slush and really dirty snow and brown yards – we have to wait for the beauty of spring.

• It’s time to start planting seedlings for the vegetable garden – but once that’s done, we really just have to wait a couple of months before we can transplant the seedlings to the garden.

• I’ve registered my kids for their summer activities – but now we must wait until school ends to start those programs.

It’s Spring time – the season of “Hurry up! And wait.” 

As Show Kids You Care prepares for the last few months of our partnerships with school-based meal programs, we are also in a season of “Hurry up! And wait.”  We’re preparing for our final fundraising campaigns for this school year – and now we have to wait to see what support comes in for the kids we serve. 

It’s an anxious time.  The money we receive now will be used to help our program partners provide all the nutritious food they need for kids until the end of the school year – and it will be used to help our summer program partners provide food for when schools are closed and kids have nowhere else to go for nutritious food.

So, if I can ask one thing of you in this season of “Hurry up! And wait.” – it would be that you hurry up – don’t wait.  Kids need you to take action now so they can continue to have access to nutritious food at their breakfast, lunch, and snack programs.

Kids living in poverty in Canada don’t have as many things to look forward to as kids living in homes where there truly is enough to eat each day.  They worry about food.  They worry about their health.  They worry about staying awake in class.  Let's give them something to look forward to.
